The Sun Microsystems Ultra 80 was a computer workstation that shipped from 1999 to 2002. The Ultra 80 is a fairly large ( high, wide and deep) and heavy () workstation in a tower enclosure. The Ultra 80 was launched in November 1999 and shipped with Solaris 2.5.1. The Ultra 80 was available in a variety of different specifications with one (model 1450), two (model 2450) or four (model 4450) 64-bit UltraSPARC II CPUs and up to 4 GB of RAM. When released, the Ultra 80 was Sun's highest performance workstation. The Ultra 80 is similar to the lower-cost Sun Ultra 60, but is somewhat larger and supports more CPUs and memory. The Ultra 80 may be rack-mounted using an optional rack-mount kit (X9627A or 560-2548) although they are generally not rack-mounted, since the Ultra 80 was designed as a workstation rather than a server. The Enterprise 420R contains an Ultra 80 motherboard in a specialized rackmount case with custom power supplies and other parts. The Ultra 80 is no longer sold new and was replaced by the (Ultra 45 ), although the Ultra 45 can only take two CPUs, rather than the four of the Ultra 80. The last order date for the Ultra 80 was July 2002 and the last model to be shipped was in October 2002, so it is now considered by Sun to be (end of life ). ==Operating system== The Ultra 80 shipped with Solaris 2.5.1, and will run later versions of Solaris prior to the official release of Solaris 11, which dropped support for the UltraSparc II, III and IV, as well as Linux and various other UNIX operating systems.
